Perspective

30 May

I had big ideas for GW2 community fan sites of various kinds. But I’ve been thinking lately…

Next month I begin studying engineering, and this time I’m dead serious. For the past few weeks i have been organising everything, setting goals and putting everything about my life into perspective. During previous university studies I have fallen back on games, especially GW, losing focus. In recognition of how easily i become engrossed in the game, i am taking a few steps back, and looking at the bigger picture.

What i won’t do…
I will not be creating a Guild Wars 2 community site. (time consuming and outside my skillset)
I will not be a guild leader. (DRAMA DRAMA DRAMA)
I will not contribute to other major fan sites. (pressure to make good stuff)

What I will do…
Update the GW2Screenshots blog with media as it becomes available (limited scope)
Blog random GW-related personal posts of questionable value (no obligations)

To reduce maintenance and the ever-present temptation to design the perfect blog theme, I am migrating this blog to WordPress.com

When it comes to Guild Wars, I’ll be creating less, and consuming more; less of a leader and more of a follower.

Not that anybody reads this shit anyway…

Mursaat Pride

13 Apr

I always felt that the Mursaat, and their flamboyant White Mantle worshipers (like Ambassador Zain), looked like they were on parade at a gay event. I came across this photograph taken at Sydney Mardi Gras 2010, and just *had* to show you all.

You don’t see Shining Blade hotties prancing around city streets now do you?! No, therefore Mantle > Blade :: #OBEY

Obey the Hotness

30 Mar

Caught up in the hype surrounding recent White Mantle vs Shining Blade “propaganda”/marketing campaign, I made this image and posted it to guru.
Lately I have started a GW magazine named TYRIA, but decided to express my GW fandom in a different direction, so the mag is now run by others. I apologize to all involved; it was a hasty decision and if I had had a week or two more to think about it, I would have not started the project. Best of luck to everyone, and I am looking forward to reading issue #1.
So, what next?
I am considering making a website to promote fan art and fan fiction for GW. People can be very imaginative and funny, and they deserve a better place to show off their efforts than a secluded forum or mysterious Deviant Art. So yep, that’s the GW project im thinking about at the moment.
When GW2 comes closer i’ll take another look at augw.net . ‘coz I do love my fellow Aussies too :)
Anyway off to work!
Thanks for the tweet Regina :)

Rabbit: Fear [FDR]; Dragon: Nova [IKOD]

Rabbit: Fear (FDR); Dragon: Nova (IKOD)

Elves chasing Dragons chasing Rabbits. I thought it was funny!

For the record, the Rabbit won.

Kurzick Tribute

12 Dec

I do quite a lot of Fort Aspenwood. It’s pretty much all I do in GW these days. When I’m not running through angry Skale and fighting Mursaat while uninfused, I am either blasting down the Orange gates at the Fort, or protecting Gunther beyond ridiculousness.

And even though all my Kurzick faction goes to the Alliance, I decided it was time for a new armor set. The Z-Keys and Luxon Jade I had built up was enough to pay for my new Kurzick Elite Armor (Jesus, they really put the Xunlai Chest out of the way! Nearly 3 radar diameters away from the Armor crafter! Rather than run all the way across the dead outpost, I mapped to GH and then back to the Armory.) :

Does it make me look fat?

ch-Rarr!

I remember, way back when, I used to buy stacks of Wood Planks around Lion’s Arch and Droknar’s Forge, go craft Parchment, and sell it for a miniscule profit. I had Excel worksheets and calculated sales vs cost of sales. I thought it was an ingenious way to make money. I was so stupid back then :P After a while I discovered 8-man Fissure of Woe farming, and did Life Barrier / Life Bond protection, then Blood is Power with my dedicated battery necromancer, “Mana Machine”. The rewards were enough to get max armor for all my characters, and later a set of Mesmer Elite Enchanter’s from Marhaan’s Grotto. Those were the days.

Oh, and a final word… this Ritualist is so gay!

Lonesome

I have seen the rise and fall of Guild Wars. Take a look at my Friends List and Guild roster:

Those people (especially the Friends) used to play a lot. I keep them on my list in case they ever come back.

Is it any wonder the wait times for GvG were 30 mins to 2 hours? More than half of those Friends were into HA and GvG. It’s a vicious circle. People leave because other people have left. Before long, you’re stuck here, like me, alone, clapping at fireworks in Lion’s Arch and being a rock in The Dragon’s Lair (which is empty):

So, how can it be different in Guild Wars 2?

  • Actively promote communication between guilds and players in our timezone
  • Welcome new players, help them integrate with the guild, train them
  • Spice up an old game by playing it differently

Is it the same in US and Euro timezones? How do you feel?

Is this game dead?

Site makeover

6 Dec

My site has stepped up a bit in the looks department, thanks to the very snazzy and affordable Elegant Themes. This isn’t an ad – they really are awesome themes!

Here’s what it looked like for the first month after launch:

Oh my first site design, your spirit will live on…

Sylvari are real!

I saw one on my back patio!!

Is it a guy or a girl? Why do Sylvari have gender? Regina said they modelled themselves on Humans… but why do they have boobs, and not belly buttons?

My Guild Wars hoard

10 Nov

This arvo I was really bored, so I decided to gather up all my GW stuff and take a photo. There’s some more I forgot about, hiding inside the game cases.

100_0195

Most of it just came with the games. Some of it I went out of my way to acquire – such as the Tournament Guide, which is totally LOL by the way.

I’ve decided that any time I think I might “love” a game, I will always buy the Collector’s Edition and a game guide. Just in case, you know, I want to make a fan blog in the future.
