Verdant Cascades
16 Dec
Today I have a new screenshot for you… this time it’s Verdant Cascades from Eye of the North. While playing Eye of the North you begin to understand ArenaNet’s design philosophy: that it’s not about pushing pixels or polygons, it’s about the art. That’s what allows Guild Wars to run on middle-range PCs systems.
Unless you’re specifically focusing on it, you tend to overlook the low-polygon trees and flat leaves… and see the environment as a whole, designed to provide atmosphere and opportunities to explore.
I expect we’ll be seeing more focus on the jungle environments with the introduction of the Sylvari.

This is one of the reasons I love Guild Wars. My computer is a stinking pile of poop, but it runs Guild Wars well. Not only that, it still looks amazing. I only started playing in January so there is still a few things for me to explore, but I love spending hours (when I can) just running around and discovering things.
Pretty amazing for a game that was released in 2005…
A lot of 2008/09 releases don’t even look as good as Guild Wars, or are about the same level…with notable exceptions of course, like Aion and stuff. WoW is so ugly…
